I’ve been to Munich visiting my friend Abdul and we went to his favourite local restaurant Zum Dürnbräu to have one of my favourite deserts when I’m in south of German. Semmelschmarrn aka Baked Bread Pudding with plumb sauce. We loved it so much, that we made it at home and its delicious. You have to try it yourself. See how simple it is.

  1. Cut buns into smaller pieces, add warm milk and let them soak for 20 minutes that buns are soft, add more milk if needed
  2. Add eggs, cinnamon, sugar and mix all well together
  3. Heat the chunk of butter, hell year it a lot of butter – this give the great taste (spare 2 tbs butter though)
  4. Pour bread egg mix into the hot melted butter pan and let it brown from one side
  5. Flip it once brown enough by smaller pieces (check occasionally to avoid its brown turns black)
  6. Towards the end of baking process tear the bread pudding into smaller pieces and give it a final finish. Add the 2 tbs of butter and stir
  7. Serve hot on plates and add icing sugar on top
  8. Goes very well with plumb sauce or vanilla ice cream
  9. Kills your diet but is so yummy
  • 4 older buns
  • 400ml warm milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tbs sugar
  • salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 100g butter
