12.000 Burpees in 2016 – 25.000 Burpees in 2017!

January 5, 2017|Tags: , , , |4 Comments

I'm so proud! I did it!!! 12.005 Burpees last year in 2016! What started very promising with 3.000 Burpees in January slowed down between March and August - I just didn't feel it as I was out of energy.... But then I started my travel tour and remembered my old 2016 challenge and started again mid September with the counter showing only 6.000. I trained in so many different locations, tiny hostel rooms, hallways, rooftops, airport gates, train stations, tree houses, a Buddhist Monastery & at the pool... All that lead me to the decision to start my new 2017 Challenge! I want to achieve 25.000 Burpees during my travels  this year!  Do you believe I can make it? Leave your comments below! Cheers Thore

Sapa and 1 day hike the Fansipan Peak (3.134m)

November 30, 2016|Tags: , , , , |2 Comments

After hearing so much about Sapa and the mountains I decided I cannot skip it, especially since the highest mountain in Indochina ist there so I wanted to hike Fansipan with its 3.134m. Given the fact, that Sapa is already very touristy and I heard from other travellers that Ta Van, 10km east from Sapa was still more authentic I decided to go there and stay in a nice homestay. Ended up at Miku Chill House Homestay - Sapa the Best with a very nice family and great home cooked dinner. So friendly people with 2 little kids all the time running around as well some puppies... However Sapa is getting very touristy, many hotels are currently built as well with the cable car up the Fansipan the old charm has gone - I can only imagine how the place was 2-5 years ago. With the cable car the peak became so commercial, that it is nothing like before - which is a big shame but I guess that happens when all the big investors coming and trying to make more money. After some research Johannes and I decided that we want to do the hike, but not in two days with a stay in a base camp but going up and down the same day! Good decision, going up took us around 4,5 hours and same to come down. And you don't need a guide to hike it up - get MapsMe and a scooter and make your way up to the Love Waterfall start point and then you can conquer the peak on your own and safe the 50 USD p.p. for the hike. Why? The path is pretty well "maintained" - they building the way up there with proper stones. Which also takes away a [...]

Deep Water Solo Climbing & Cat Ba National Park

November 24, 2016|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Deep Water Solo Climbing - awesome shit. Never did it before, although I've been an active climber back in Frankfurt but this was great. Climbing without the annoying belts and ropes and water below you.... Honestly climbing up the first 6 meters was okay, but standing there on the edge to jump down was quite something. It didn't look that high from the boat....but hey, climbing down wasn't an option - so I jumped and the next climbs and jumps have been easier so that I was finally 15 meters high and had to jump down - check out the video here. Great fun and I definitely would do it again! Here are some pictures from the boat ride as well the climb.

Just another Burpee Update – Hit the 10.000 Milestone

November 22, 2016|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

NO EXCUSES like "I can't workout, I don't have time!" or "I'm too tired!" are nothing I can use to avoid any Burpee sets. It's more that I'm not in a mood to do the workout. Weather is too nice, beer cold and it's too hot. But hey, only excuses. A workout of 100 Burpees is only 15 minutes max and after I feel great the food tastes better as the beer does. Recently hit the 10.000 mark and are now at 10.205 / 12.000 Burpees for this year! Almost there, but the year is also almost finished...tomorrow time for another hike. This time on Vietnams biggest island in the Northeast! Pics to follow later...

Little hike to Tuyen Lam Lake aka Edensee south of Da Lat

November 8, 2016|Tags: , , , |4 Comments

After too many days in the city of Ho Chi Minh I was due to move my legs. So I decided to go on a little trek to Edersee. Checked on Google Maps and it was walking distance, initially wanted to go around the lake to make it a nice round, but unfortunately the street has not been finished around the lake. Asked locals if they can take me with the boat but at this point of time no boat business yet. Hence I finished my day with 31km and sore legs. Most of the tour is on proper concrete - was passed by many scooters and all were super surprised that I'm walking and not driving....hehe Have a look at the pictures, nice lake at the end, when I first saw it - lots of rubbish in it....same as in many parts of Vietnam. See more pictures here.
